According to reports, Odigwu, a graduate of Economics from the University of Delta State, Abraka, proposed to his girlfriend of more than three years recently.
But she allegedly dumped him when her childhood friend, who travelled abroad six years ago, returned with tempting promises and asked for her hand in marriage, The Herald reports.
Devastated by this, the young man attempted to end his life.
Fortunately, he was discovered by a police patrol team on routine duty at a T-Junction in Warri.
According to the police public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, he was found almost lifeless around Jappa Junction gasping between his breaths around 10:30pm on Saturday night.
She stated that a letter was recovered from him which read: “I felt heartbroken and rejected by someone, whom I loved and had given my heart to over the years in the midst of a get together with my friends, I’d rather die and return to mother earth.”
His younger sister Evelyn said the police recovered six sachets of rat poisons on the ground where they found him.
“My brother may have gone to buy the rat poisons and drank them because he was really emotional over the girl’s attitude,” she said.
