The State Security Service (SSS) has apprehended a engineer based in Enugu believed to be the main engineer of separatist station, Radio Biafra.
The engineer allegedly assisted the operators of the radio station to place not so large equipment on abandoned NITEL transmission polls and a few transmitters owned by other mobile telecom providers
The engineer has since been transported to Abuja to face interrogation, Newsrescue.com reports.
The station has been operating online for some years now but recently began broadcasting inciting and insulting messages across Nigeria’s South east and South South region.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Emeka Mba, has promised Nigerians that the signals from the station will be blocked soon.
Two days ago, the NBC claimed it had successfully jammed signals from separatist radio station, Radio Biafra. But the owners of the station and some Nigerians who follow the activities of the station denied the claims of the regulatory agency.
Radio Biafra operates from an unknown location with the frequency 88.0 and it is quite popular among some listeners.
The station which shows solidarity for the Biafra struggle is mainly listened to by people in Rivers, Imo, Anambra and Enugu state.
In a related development, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo recently stated that the radio station, “does not have the backing of the South East, any leader of the South East, or any Igbo man.”
