N L C in Anambra seeks extension of BVN

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Central Bank of Central (CBN) to extend the June 30 deadline set for bank customers to obtain their Bank Verification Number (BVN).
The NLC Chairman in Anambra, Mr Jerry Nnubia, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.
Nnubia said that findings within the union had shown that most workers in the state had not been captured in the exercise.
He said adhering to the June 30 date would amount to shutting members of the union from the banking system as most workers in the state were yet to register.
Nnubia decried the number of branches of the banks where BVN were been done compared to the number of branches in the state, and called for more decentralised capturing points.
He urged the Anambra and other state governments to help workers partake in the exercise by declaring half workdays so that they could go to less congested areas to obtain BVN.
The chairman noted that workers could not afford the consequence of being shut out of the banking services.
He said denying them banking services could cause financial crunch for their families.
